Springfield City Council candidate raises concerns about proposed MGM Springfield housing delay

Jesse Lederman, a candidate for City Council, said in a press release Sunday that he is concerned about a proposed delay of the MGM Springfield housing development.

“The delay and uncertainty of the MGM housing development project is very concerning for voters who supported a host agreement that specifically touted the benefits of such a project,” Lederman said. “This aspect of the host agreement is one of the most important for our city and its residents.”

Representatives of the city and MGM have stated the delay is related to negotiations in recent months to have MGM invest in a potential $40 million housing/mixed use redevelopment at the historic 13-31 Elm St. block as part of its commitment to bring market rate housing to the downtown area.

The proposed extension is for the housing to be completed within 18 months after the casino opens. The casino is slated to open in September 2018.
