(AP) – Arkansas justices are hearing arguments in a lawsuit challenging the state’s rejection of petitions for a Texas businessman’s bid to win exclusive rights to operate casinos in the state. The Arkansas Supreme Court on Thursday planned to hear oral arguments in the lawsuit filed by Michael Wasserman against the secretary of state’s office. Wasserman has argued that the state should have given him more time to gather additional signatures for his casino amendment.Wasserman’s proposal would give him exclusive rights to operate casinos in seven counties.State election officials say that Wasserman missed a key signature requirement when he turned in his petitions.The case is one of two lawsuits the court is considering over competing casino legalization proposals.
