Arkansas: Gulfside again awarded Pope County casino license Hannah Butler, Courier News · August 1, 2020 at 4:44 pm Gulfside Casino Partnership has again been awarded the Pope County casino license in a 3-2 vote. In the vote, the Arkansas Racing Commission (ARC) denied Cherokee Nation Businesses’ (CNB) request to appeal a prior decision by commissioners to award the license to Gulfside on June 18. After hearing from Gulfside attorney Casey Castleberry and CNB attorney Dustin McDaniel, commissioner Bo Hunter made the motion to deny the appeal and award Gulfside the license Thursday. Acting Chairman Mark Lamberth and Commissioner Steve Landers were alone in opposition and urged for a revote. Commissioners Denny East of Marion, Michael Post of Altus and Bo Hunter of Fort Smith voted in favor of denying the appeal and awarding Gulfside Casino the license.
