The B.C. Lottery Corp. is celebrating a win for sports bettors on Parliament Hill. On Tuesday, the Senate passed Bill C-218, which opens the door to single-event betting on hockey, football, baseball and other sports in Canada. It now awaits Royal assent to become law.
The legislation will allow the Canadian gaming industry to begin working with provincial gaming agencies, like the BCLC, to offer wagering on single games or matches.
Currently, sports gamblers using the BCLC’s PlayNow website can only place combination wagers, also known as parlay bets, on the outcome of multiple games.
“We’re excited to soon provide our players these new offerings on PlayNow.com, which is B.C.’s only legal gambling website..,” Lynda Cavanaugh, BCLC’s interim president and CEO, said in a statement.
