Casino operators welcome changes in law, but most report a down April Karen Caffarini, Post-Tribune · May 15, 2019 at 7:07 pm Coming off a modest month in April, Northwest Indiana casino operators are gearing up for changes provided in a new bill, including the moving of one Gary casino to a land-based site and allowing sports betting at the casinos and on mobile devices. The bill was signed May 8 by Gov. Eric Holcomb. “We hope to have sports betting in place by the fall, in time for football,” said Dan Nita, regional president for Caesars Entertainment, which includes Horseshoe Hammond. He said the casino is close to finalizing a location for its sports betting venue and the dollar amount it would cost to make the renovation. He said priorities for the chosen site include high visibility, high traffic location and high ceilings.
