Christie: Casinos to stay closed for now

November 1, 2012 at 8:05 pm

MOONACHIE, N.J. (AP) – Atlantic City’s casinos have power, but they won’t be opening up again until a few other hurdles are cleared.

Gov. Chris Christie said Thursday that he’s concerned about telling the casinos to open up when the rest of Atlantic City is without power. He said another concern is that drinking water in the city hasn’t been tested and determined to be safe.

The governor says he’s been assured that power would be restored to mainland areas of Atlantic County by Friday. Barrier island areas, including Atlantic City, should have power back by Saturday night.

The casinos have been closed since before the storm hit New Jersey on Monday.
