Dissociative trance: the worst of pathological gambling

Experts now say that dissociative trance may be one of the most serious psychological symptoms which can develop in those suffering from pathological or compulsive gambling, especially with regard to online gambling.

Even if each type of addiction has specific, defined and unique aspects, all addictions have in common the desire to escape from reality and the inability to manage and tolerate the psychological suffering that derives from it. Pathological gambling, like other forms of addiction, is considered to be an expression of deep psychic discomfort that needs to be heard and decoded.

Currently, pathological gambling is considered, along with other addictions such as sex addiction, excessive work (workaholism) and the Internet, as a form of behavioural addiction.

Individuals who experience this kind of suffering can lose the ability to reflect, think critically and ultimately can abandon themselves to a state of strong euphoria and momentary pleasure sought ever more frequently through the compulsive pathological behaviour.
