The constant changes in online sports betting and igaming can be difficult to keep track of for even seasoned professionals. A program at Seton Hall University in New Jersey aims to help compliance workers keep pace with legal issues in those fields.

Entain, through its Entain Foundation US, announced Thursday it is donating $100,000 to Seton Hall’s School of Law to provide ethics, legal, and compliance education from legal professionals working in online sports betting and gaming industries.

United Kingdom-based Entain PLC is the 50-50 joint venture partner with MGM Resorts International in Roar Digital, the New Jersey company that operates the BetMGM retail sportsbooks and the BetMGM sports betting app.

The donation follows the success of the inaugural Gaming Law, Compliance and Integrity Bootcamp, which was launched at Seton Hall in March 2020, and drew 50 participants.

“This funding will guarantee the continued success of the Bootcamp,” said Kathleen M. Boozang, Dean of the Seton Hall School of Law, “and ensure that gaming compliance professionals have a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and the ability to identify, scrutinize, prevent, and address unlawful or unethical behaviors.”

This year’s Bootcamp is set for September 19-22 at Seton Hall School of Law’s Newark campus. Topics expected to be discussed this year include:

  • Insights on the global and U.S. gambling markets and trends
  • Legal and regulatory structures that ensure market integrity and player protection
  • Transparent compliance protocols that protect both the public interest and operators

“This industry is growing very rapidly and needs the support of top-quality legal and compliance professionals who understand the complexities of the regulatory landscape,” said William J. Pascrell III, a trustee of the Entain Foundation US. “This is a really exciting collaboration which seeks to do that.”
