Eye On Gambling: Des Plaines, Illinois Hires Second Lobbying Firm Todd Wessell, Journal & Topics · February 27, 2019 at 2:51 pm Preparing for what many believe will be expansion of gambling in Illinois — perhaps this year — that could include more casinos and sports betting, the city of Des Plaines last week hired a second high-profile lobbying firm. Aldermen voted 7 to 0 to hire Advantage Government Strategies, LLC for an amount not to exceed $55,000 over the next 11 months ending Dec. 31. A key component of the hiring is that former longtime State Rep. Lou Lang of Skokie will serve as the main representative of the lobbying firm who will work with Des Plaines. Lang resigned from the state legislature in early January ending 32 years in the Illinois House. He is considered one of the foremost experts on gambling and for years led the effort to expand gaming in the state.
