Gambling: Green light for Italian region to spend millions on problem gambling

Some of the Emilia-Romagna region’s main objectives are greater prevention of problem gambling, bringing people at risk and their families closer to health services, supporting projects and initiatives working to protect with children and students and keeping gambling away from sensitive places such as schools and hospitals.

They also aim to strengthen the quality of care for those with gambling addiction problems, making the diagnostic and therapeutic pathway more clearly defined and efficient.

The proposal for a Regional Action Plan against gambling addiction was approved by the Junta after the National Observatory’s prior approval. In fact, Emilia-Romagna is one of four Italian regions – together with Friuli Venezia Giulia, Basilicata and Umbria – with a fully approved Regional Plan, thereby obtaining authorization from the Ministry of Health to access funds already allocated to the region to fight pathological gambling: €3,712,000 for the period 2017-2018.
