Earlier this year, Circa Sports, which is owned by downtown Las Vegas casino operator Derek Stevens, announced plans to launch its mobile sports betting application in Colorado in partnership with Century Casino Cripple Creek.

Colorado, which legalized sports betting last year, is still anticipating launching the activity in conjunction with the state’s casinos in Black Hawk, Central City and Cripple Creek by May 1. Mobile sports wagering was approved by voters along with retail sportsbooks.

However, the coronavirus pandemic has closed the state’s casinos and caused professional and collegiate sports to curtail all games since last month.

In a statement Thursday, IGT said it will expand its PlaySports betting technology into Colorado through Circa. IGT PlaySports is currently being used in 11 states by commercial and tribal casinos and a racetrack.

“We look forward to introducing patrons and sports fans in Colorado to the excitement of Vegas-style sports betting through the Circa Sports Colorado mobile app,” Stevens said in a statement. Stevens owns the D Las Vegas and Golden Gate and is building Circa Casino Resort, which is expected to open in December.

IGT PlaySports is currently powering sports betting in 11 states and at commercial and tribal casinos, lottery-run destinations, and a racetrack.

Legal sports betting is currently active in 17 states. Three other states, including Colorado, are expected to launch this year.

IGT PlayDigital Senior Vice President Enrico Drago said, “Together with Circa Sports, IGT will expand its PlaySports footprint into Colorado, another U.S. state with compelling sports betting growth opportunities for IGT and our customers.”
