Illinois: Penn National approved for online sports wagering, will launch Barstool Sportsbook app

The Illinois Gaming Board announced Wednesday it has approved Penn National Gaming’s application to provide online sports wagering in the state.

Penn National will launch its Barstool Sportsbook app on March 11.

“We are extremely excited to launch our online Barstool Sportsbook in Illinois just as the college basketball regular season wraps up and bettors begin their preparations for March Madness,” said Jay Snowden, President and CEO of Penn National.

Penn National plans to offer a number of promotional bets during the launch of the mobile app, including odds boosts on the Cubs and White Sox to win the 2021 World Series, a $1,000 risk-free bet after an initial deposit, and an multiple wagering options related to the upcoming March Madness college basketball tournament.

Penn National entered a strategic partnership with Barstool Sports in February 2020, acquiring 36% of the digital sports media company. Barstool exclusively promotes Penn National’s land-based and sports betting products, including the Barstool Sportsbook mobile app, to its audience.

The mobile app will be available for iOS and Android user, and also through a web browser for desktop users.
