The Shelby County Drug Coalition is urging Indiana Grand Racing and Casino to go smoke free as part of its efforts to convince all restaurant, bar and club owners to do the same.

Coalition Director of Programming and Grant Management Keyen Macklin thinks now is the time for the casino to go smoke free because it’s expanding.

“It would be a perfect time for them to go smoke-free, for their employees and their visitors, and for them to invest in building an outdoor smoking area,” Macklin said.

To support her argument, Macklin presented a 2020 survey by The American Lung Association that revealed 84 percent of smokers said casinos should design properties with easily accessible outdoor smoking areas.
