Italy: new government, new casino rules?

Although a week has already passed since the political elections, it is still too early to say whether the new executive will also deal with casinos, which seems to be a complicated subject for the Italian government.

The most benevolent and sympathetic political lineup facing the existing situation for the casino industry is probably the centre right. Forza Italia, specifically its leader Silvio Berlusconi, has repeatedly promised the renovation and reopening of the Casino in Taormina.

However, it should be emphasized that the new government, unless a radical overturn of the current situation takes place, will probably not have the strategic vision needed concerning casinos, particularly the lack of legislation and other current crises.

Meanwhile, the story continues locally and faces a critical point in the hearing on the bankruptcy application of the Casino Campione and the Court of Auditors on allegations of up to €140 million in wasted funding granted to the Val d’Aosta region.
