Mass. city takes next step in casino process

November 1, 2012 at 4:46 pm

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) – Springfield is moving on to the second phase of its casino selection process.

The city announced Thursday that all three developers proposing casino plans for the city have been prequalified after submitting Phase I applications. They are MGM Resorts, Penn National Gaming and Ameristar Casinos.

The companies will now be asked to submit more detailed applications under Phase II of the process, which must include detailed site plans, projections of economic benefits to the city and state, and estimates of jobs the project will create.

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno appointed a seven-member advisory committee Thursday to help review applications.

Sarno intends to pick one – or possibly more – proposals to put before voters for approval next year.
