Merrill joins Maverick Gaming after having served in a variety of senior business roles at Las Vegas Sands, including, most recently, as Senior Vice President of Slot Operations at Sands China Limited, where his responsibilities included the entire P&L of slots for The Venetian, The Parisian, Sands Macao, Four Seasons Macao, Himalaya and Pacifica/Sands Cotai Central.

“Mr. Merrill is the leader Maverick Gaming needs to integrate the multiple Washington properties we are currently purchasing and to transition this business into the regional entertainment opportunity we envision,” Maverick Gaming owner Eric Persson said. “The fact the Maverick is able to attract senior talent from the largest gaming company in the world is a testament to what this company is (now) and is in the process of becoming.”

Maverick Gaming is majority owned and was founded by Persson, the former Global Sr. VP of Slots at Las Vegas Sands, and Justin Beltram, former VP of Slots at Bellagio and Marina Bay Sands. The company currently owns the Wendover Nugget and Red Garter Hotel, which include more than 600 hotel rooms and 1200 slot machines collectively.

“Over the next few months, we intend to announce further acquisitions in Washington that will demonstrate our commitment to this market,” Persson said.

During his ten years at Las Vegas Sands and Sands China Limited, Merrill held a series of senior roles, including Vice President of Casino Marketing for SCL, Vice President of Slots at the Venetian/Palazzo, and Corporate Vice President of Slot Operations for Las Vegas Sands.

Prior to his time at Las Vegas Sands, Merrill held senior positons at Caesars Entertainment and Delaware North, among others.
