The Mohawk Valley Health System has received a $50 million donation and a name for the hospital it’s building in downtown Utica from the family foundation of casino and developer Steve Wynn, who grew up in Utica.
“The Mohawk Valley Health System has received the largest donation in its history,” said health system President/CEO Darlene Stromstad, “and we also believe it is the largest gift ever given in this part of New York state.”
“That is 5-oh million dollars,” she added.
Stromstad made the announcement with Wynn, who owns a summer home in Old Forge, in front of a small audience that included Wynn’s wife, Andrea, in the MVHS construction offices in the former Utica National building on Lafayette Street.
