New Zealand: Bowls player believes reducing machines is more harmful Sharnae Hope, Stuff · May 19, 2019 at 7:30 pm Gaming machines are the life line of local sport says one bowls player, who believes reducing gaming machines in his district will cause more harm to the community. The Matamata-Piako district currently has 157 machines operating at 13 gaming venues. Of the 13 gaming venues four are permitted in Morrinsville, five in Matamata and four in Te Aroha. The current policy, however, allows 201 machines. The council is currently reviewing the TAB Board Venue Policy and Gambling Venue Policy proposing to update the ratio of machines and venues to the 2017 population set by Statistics New Zealand.
