Penn National adds advertising executive to company’s board

Penn National Gaming added a seat to the regional casino company’s board, naming advertising trade association executive Marla Kaplowitz to the panel on Tuesday.

Kaplowitz’s appointment expands the Penn National board to eight members, six of whom are considered independent directors under Nasdaq rules.

Kaplowitz Brings some 30 years of experience in business management, strategic planning, and marketing and communications to the board of Penn, which operates 41 gaming properties in 19 states.

Kaplowitz is CEO of the American Association of Advertising Agencies, a trade association serving more than 600 member agencies across 1,200 offices throughout the U.S. The agencies are responsible for more than 85% of the total country’s domestic advertising spending.

From 2011 to 2017, Kaplowitz CEO of North America of MEC Global (now Wavemaker Global). During her time there, she led MEC to become a major disruptor in the area of talent management.

“Marla is an innovator and a proven leader in marketing and digital transformation, which will serve us well as Penn National continues its evolution into the nation’s leading omnichannel provider of retail and interactive gaming, sports betting and entertainment,” Penn Chairman David Handler said in a statement. “We’re delighted to have her unique talents on the board.”
