The optimism generated in March when Rivers Casino kicked off the sports betting era in Illinois gave way to one key measure utilized repeatedly to help the fledgling industry find its legs in the most challenging of circumstances. Five mobile sportsbooks are in operation since BetRivers accepted the first such wager June 18, and since Aug. 1, five physical sportsbooks have joined Rivers Casino and Argosy Casino Alton. Much of the former has been possible due to Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s June 4 issuance of Executive Order 2020-41.
