Rhode Island sports betting handle surges by 231.5% for July Christina Monroe, Legal Sports Betting · September 3, 2020 at 6:59 am The Rhode Island sports betting industry has done a 180 by tripling their month to month handle by 231.5%. The Rhode Island Lottery released its most recent revenue report figures showing that business went from wagers totaling $2,032,803 in June to $6,738,626 for July. However, the number of sporting events from a year-to-year basis is drastically different which could be the leading cause in the drop. There were a few contributing factors for the jump in Rhode Island’s sports wagering market. July started with the return of major sports after months of being on hiatus from the Coronavirus Pandemic. This allowed sportsbooks to begin offering bets on more events than they’ve been able to offer sports bettors in nearly half a year.
