Sandra Douglass Morgan was named to the Nevada Gaming Commission Friday by Gov. Brian Sandoval.
Morgan, who is director of external affairs for AT&T in Las Vegas, will be the first African-American woman to serve on the state’s Gaming Commission. An attorney, she is currently a member of the Nevada Athletic Commission.
“Sandra has done exemplary work on the Athletic Commission and with her legal experience and expertise, I am confident she will be a strong voice on the Gaming Commission,” Sandoval said in a statement. “I am pleased to appoint Sandra to this position and I thank her for her continued service to our state.”
Morgan joins the part-time five-person panel that makes the final decisions on Nevada gaming matters. The commission rules on recommendations made by the full-time Gaming Control Board. Sandoval is a former chairman of the commission.
With AT&T, Morgan is responsible for managing legislative and community affairs activities for the telecommunications company in Nevada. A native of Las Vegas, Morgan also served as the city attorney for the City of North Las Vegas. She also served as a litigation attorney for MGM Mirage (now MGM Resorts International).
“I am incredibly honored and grateful to be selected to serve on a commission that has helped shape Nevada’s history,” Morgan said in a statement. “I hope to continue the legacy of ensuring that our great state remains the leader in gaming policy.”
Morgan replaces Randolph Townsend, a former Nevada state senator, whose term expired. Other members of the commission include Chairman Tony Alamo, Jr, who is a doctor; attorney John Moran Jr., former U.S. District Judge Phillip Pro, and banking executive Deborah Fuetsch.
Morgan has a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Nevada, Reno and was awarded a Juris Doctor from the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
In July 2017, Morgan received the Corporate to Community Connector award from the National Urban League Young Professionals. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Jobs for Nevada’s Graduates and received Nevada Business Magazine’s Legal Elite Top 10 Government Attorneys in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
