The Plaza: Downtown Done Right? Steve Bornfeld, Las Vegas Magazine · June 23, 2017 at 4:32 pm Musically speaking, you could put it this way—and Petula Clark did just that: “The lights are much brighter there / You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares / So go DOWNTOWN, things will be great when you’re / DOWNTOWN, no finer place for sure / DOWNTOWN, everything’s waiting for you.” Much of that’s waiting at the Plaza. Job One in Vegas (except gaming, of course)? Entertainment, ’natch. Here, that job is deftly handled by variety veterans known as The Scintas—Buffalo-born bros Frankie and Joey, “honorary Scinta”/drummer Peter O’Donnell, vocalist Janien Valentine and their five-piece backup band—who are Vegas’ very own hutch of Energizer bunnies. Over 17 years, this hard-working ensemble has traversed the town, occupying venues both on-and-off-Strip, now landing at the Plaza Showroom. Such rare longevity stems not only from Vegas loyalty, but a performance ethic that’s equal parts talent and warmth.
