National

Total igaming revenue for December 2021 in New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, West Virginia, and Delaware added up to $383.2 million, an increase of 11.2%, spread across all states, over November’s $340.3 million.

New Jersey

For the 10th month in a row, revenue earned from online-casino gambling in New Jersey topped $100 million. The $133.2 million win also set a new monthly record for the state, easily surpassing the previous record of $127 million set last November. For the calendar year, New Jersey online-casino operators earned $1.37 billion, a 34% increase over 2020’s $994 million.

Online casino games took in $130.9 million, a jump of 11.6% over November’s $115.8 million. Borgata/BetMGM led the pack once again with a $37.1 million win, an increase of 9.2% month over month, while Golden Nugget Online Gaming got closer to BetMGM than usual with $36 million, an 11.7% increase from November. Third-place Resorts Digital also closed the gap a bit, earning $32 million, a significant 15.5% increase over November.

New Jersey collected a tad more than $20 million in online-gambling taxes in December, compared to $17.7 million in November, a 15% increase.

Michigan

Michigan’s online casinos generated $121.8 million in gross gambling revenue in December, jumping 11.7% over November’s $107.6 million. Like New Jersey, the state also set a new record for igaming, easily beating the old one of $109.7 million set in October. It was also the fourth month in a row that Michigan generated more than $100 million in igaming revenue. For the year, Michigan topped $1 billion, becoming the third state, along with New Jersey and Pennsylvania, to produce 10 figures from igaming and the only one to do so in its first year. The total of $1.1 billion accounted for $279.3 million in taxes paid.

Also like in New Jersey, BetMGM remains the board leader with $46 million in gross igaming revenue, up 12.9% over November’s $40.1 million. Second-place DraftKings (Bay Mills) earned at $20.1 million, while third-place FanDuel (Motor City) came in at $17.3 million.

Michigan’s 14 online casino operators paid $22.6 million in taxes to the state, up 12.4% over November’s $19.8 million. Another $6.4 million (an increase of 15.5% over the $5.4 million in November) was collected by the city of Detroit and $2.2 million (essentially the same as the previous month) by tribal governments.

Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania’s online gaming revenue in December was $102.1 million, the same 9% change as in November, but this was an increase, rather than last month’s decrease, for an 18% swing month over month.

Total revenue from online slots, $68.8 million, was up 7.8% over November’s $63.5 million, though down nearly 3% from October’s $70.7 million. Online table games earned $30.3 million, up 8.6% from November’s $27.7 million and 4.3% over October’s $29.3 million. Online poker’s $3.1 million was up a commensurate 9.7% over November’s $2.8 million.

Penn National Gaming continues to hold its perch at the top of the list with a gross of $40.5 million, an increase of 7.7% month over month, while second-place Rivers Casino Pennsylvania’s $26.1 million was an exactly equal 7.7% over November’s $24.2 million.

Pennsylvania collected $42.5 million in taxes in December, an 8% jump from the previous month’s $39.1 million.

West Virginia

The Mountain State’s igaming revenue for December came in at $8.7 million, a major increase of 46.6% over November’s $5.9 million. Igaming in West Virginia has earned at least $1 million now in 25 consecutive weeks (the state reports results weekly). The week ending on Christmas Day recorded the most betting activity since West Virginia introduced online casino gambling.

Delaware

Delaware’s December igaming revenue of $1.1 million jumped 9.1% over November’s $996,639 and set a new record for gross igaming revenue; it was the first time Delaware broke into seven figures. Revenue from online gambling added up to $10.6 million for the calendar year, up 20.8% over 2020, also a new record.

Online video lottery (slot) games once again accounted for the lion’s share of income at $823,386, higher by 7% than November’s $766,790, while table games generated $221,215, up 11.4% from November’s $196,488. Online poker revenue rose on the incoming tide to $43,069, a substantial 22.6% increase month over month.

Connecticut

Completing December’s sweep of all six igaming states, in its second full month of igaming, Connecticut’s two operators earned $16.3 million, 14.8% higher than November’s $13.9 million. DraftKings (Foxwoods) and FanDuel (Mohegan Sun) paid their 18% to the state in taxes for $2.9 million, a 13.8% jump from November’s $2.5 million.
