An overview of igaming revenue in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, and Delaware, the five states where online gambling is legal in the U.S.
National
Total igaming revenue for March 2021 in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, West Virginia, and Michigan added up to $311.6 million, 18.9% more than February’s $253 million.
1. New Jersey
New Jersey saw a substantial rise in igaming revenue due to the three extra days in the month and set a new record of $114 million, up 20% from February. Compared to January’s $103.7 million, March’s figure was up 9%. Online poker was $2.7 million, up 7.5%, to erase February’s 7.5% drop from $2.7 million in January.
For the first time, Borgata took over as New Jersey’s number-one internet casino, with $36.2 million in revenue, up 29% over February’s $25.7 million. Golden Nugget Online Gaming switched places with Borgata, with $31.8 million, up 12.3% month over month.
New Jersey collected $17.1 million in in online-gaming taxes in March, up 18% over February’s $14 million.
2. Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania’s igaming revenue for March 2021 set another revenue record. It rose from $78 million in the short month of February to $97.7 million in the long month of March, an increase of nearly 21%. Compared to the $80.4 million in revenue over the 31 days in January, the more apples-to-apples increase was a still-significant 18%. In addition, it was a nearly 300% increase year over year.
Total revenue from online slots came in at $66 million, up 14.3% from February’s $50.6 million, while table games produced $29 million, up 15% from February’s $24.7 million. Online poker’s $2.4 million was down 4.7% from $2.5 million the previous month.
Penn National Gaming’s nearly $34 million in revenue in March 2021 remained at the top of the heap, up 17.7% over February. Second-place Rivers Casino Philadelphia’s $27 million trounced its February figure of just under $18 million by 33.3%.
Tax revenue generated from February igaming was $40.9 million, up 22.8% from February’s $31.6 million.
3. Michigan
Michigan’s second full month of igaming saw a similarly impressive rise in revenues, coming in at $95.1 million, a 19.3% increase over February’s $79.7 million. For March, the Great Lake State was essentially neck and neck with Pennsylvania, just $2.6 million (2.7%) less, after surpassing the Keystone State last month by $1.9 million.
BetMGM led Michigan’s 11 online casinos with $30.8 million, a 12.7% bump from February’s $26.9 million in igaming revenue and a 32.4% market share. FanDuel and DraftKings placed second and third, respectively, with $18.9 million and $16.6 million in revenue.
The 11 internet casinos paid $12.8 million in state taxes for the month of March.
4. West Virginia
The Mountain State’s igaming revenues also set a new record in March at a little more than $3.9 million, a 14% increase compared to February’s $3.4 million. The state took its 15% privilege tax on the win of $585,000, up 12.9% from February’s $510,000.
5. Delaware
Delaware’s micro igaming market showed a significant gain month over month of 13.4%, with $897,781 in total revenue over February’s $751,291.
Online video lottery (slot) games once again accounted for the lion’s share of income at $681,365, up 12.4% over February’s $597,412. Table games generated $179,705, a major increase of 26.2% over February’s $114,684. Poker revenue fell again, this time to $36,711, down 6.4% from the $39,193 of the previous shortened month.
