Wagering down 7 percent in Sept. at Conn. casinos (AP) October 15, 2013 at 12:28 pm HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun casino says the halt in declining revenue in August resumed in September. The Indian-run casino in Uncasville reported on Tuesday that September revenue was $49.9 million, down nearly $4.8 million, or 9 percent. It snapped a record of declining revenue in August with a tiny increase of $18,061. Total wagering was $621.5 million, a $49 million decline from September 2012, or 7 percent. Revenue is the share of wagers that the casino keeps. Neighboring Foxwoods Resort Casino reported revenue of $44.8 million for September, down $1.5 million, or 3.2 percent from September 2012. Wagering at the Mashantucket-owned casino fell 7 percent, to $508.1 million. The weak economic recovery has reduced spending by gamblers. The casinos also are under pressure from competition in the Northeast, particularly New York. Copyright 2013 The Associated Press.
