West Virginia Senate committee passes sports betting bill Associated Press · February 13, 2018 at 5:38 pm CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – A West Virginia Senate committee has advanced a bill that would introduce sports betting at the state’s five casinos. The Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday sent the bill to the full Senate. The bill would allow sports betting at West Virginia licensed casinos and on Lottery Commission-approved mobile device applications. The committee rejected amendments to prohibit casinos from developing their own wagering apps and allow sports betting at other, smaller facilities for a fee. A similar bill is pending in the House. The National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball say the legislation doesn’t protect consumers or prevent players from betting on their own sports, in addition to lacking proper safeguards. Later this year the U.S. Supreme Court will decide New Jersey’s challenge to a law banning sports betting in all but four states. Copyright 2018 The Associated Press.
