West Virginia continued a troubling sports betting trend in May as the total handle was down for the second straight month. Several states across the United States saw a drop in May, and this could continue until the return of football in September.
The total sports betting handle in May totaled $25.5 million, which was a drop of nearly 4% from the month of April. Two months ago, April saw a total sports betting handle of $26.5 million.
When looking at the year-over-year sports betting handle totals in May, it was an impressive jump of nearly 270 percent. Those numbers are a bit skewed as the COVID-19 pandemic completely shut down most live sporting events 12 months ago.
