The hiring comes as William Hill expands its sports book operations across the U.S., following May’s ruling by the Supreme Court that opened the country to legally regulated sports wagering.

The company currently operates 107 sports books in Nevada and provides consumers with a mobile sports betting app. William Hill opened two active sports books in New Jersey, at Monmouth Park Racetrack in Long Branch and Ocean Resort Casino in Atlantic City. The company is also expected to have sports book operations in Mississippi.

From 2009 to 2015, Otterman was senior vice president and chief marketing officer at NBC Universal, where she developed and executed brand and marketing strategies for all MSNBC and NBC News shows, including the Today Show, Meet the Press, and NBC Nightly News. She also served in marketing positions with ESPN.

William Hill US CEO Joe Asher said Otterman is joining the company during a tremendous growth period.

“Sharon is a proven leader and we are thrilled that we could pull her away from one of the most high-profile jobs in sports marketing to join William Hill,” Asher said.

Otterman is a graduate of Ithaca College, and holds an Executive MBA from New York University.

“The popularity of sports betting has never been higher,” she said.
