Wisconsin: As more casinos reopen, Potawatomi does not yet have a public reopening plan Margaret Naczek, Milwaukee Business Journal · May 26, 2020 at 11:00 pm While casinos in northern Wisconsin have announced phased reopening plans, Milwaukee’s Potawatomi Hotel & Casino in the Menomonee Valley remains closed with no public announcement of a reopening date. Potawatomi, at 1721 W. Canal St., suspended its operations March 17 at 5 p.m. At the beginning of the closure, the company was able to pay all of its 2,700 employees. Beginning April 13, the company had to temporarily furlough 90% of its team as the closure continued. In mid-May, Milwaukee County estimated that it lost $1.9 million from Potawatomi’s closure. Milwaukee County collects 1.5% of the net win at the casino following deductions by the state, which collects 6.5% of the net win under the Forest County Potawatomi Community’s gaming compact with Wisconsin.
